Monterey Heights School was completed in 1947 during a period of intensive growth in the Lemon Grove School District. The school was a feature of a brand new subdivision in town ("Monterey Heights") as GIs returned home, Rosie the Riveters returned to home and family, the baby boom was on and the need for new housing and elementary schools was paramount in the national and local mind.
