Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

Lemon Grove School District is proud to announce its launch of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support in the 21-22 school year. This framework is built to support ALL students, and support every student to reach their full potential.

As a school community we are committed to the belief that all students should be educated in the most inclusive learning environment regardless of eligibility of special education or other student support services. LGSD’s MTSS Framework is a continuum of support that emphasizes universal support must be provided for all students, recognizing that some students may need supplemental support at times and a few students may require more intensified support at times to be successful.

LGSD’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework:

  • embraces the Whole Child approach
  • supports Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS)
  • is anchored in strong, universal Tier I instruction through:
    • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
    • Culturally and Historically Responsive Teaching (CHRT)
    • Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

In our first year of MTSS implementation, the district is focusing on Tier One universal supports in two ways: Culturally and Historically Responsive Teaching (CHRT) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). This year, each school site has established their MTSS JEDI (Justice-Equity-Diversity-Inclusion) teams that meet on a regular basis. In addition, Lemon Grove has contracted with Panorama Education to support with Student SEL Surveys and a robust Student Data Dashboard to support our MTSS framework.
