Department Overview

Lemon Grove School District provides a continuum of special education programs and support services for students with exceptional needs, from birth through 8th grade. Our students’ from birth to age 3 who are in need of special education services are served through a SELPA-wide regional program. Students in grades preschool through 8 are served within Lemon Grove School District.

If there is a suspicion of a disability, students are assessed by our IEP team members, and an Individual Education Program (IEP) meeting is held with parents and staff where the results of the assessments are reviewed and discussed. If the student is determined to be eligible for special education services, the student's eligibility will be determined, based on criteria set by both the State and Federal Government. The IEP document will describe the program that will be provided to the student, including the target goals/objectives for the student, accommodations or modifications, and services and supports that will be provided by the district. The goal of special education is to provide a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. The philosophy of the Lemon Grove School District is to partner with parents in order to provide a quality educational program for each student.

If you are concerned your child may have an unidentified disability, please talk to your School Psychologist to learn more. You can also fill out the Special Education Request for Assessment form, and provide it to your school's front office. The school will provide a written response to you, and whether they will conduct the evaluation or what next steps they will take, within 15 days.
