Leadership Update for LGSD

Dear Lemon Grove School District Families, Staff, and Community:

 

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Dr. Javier Ayala, and I am the Vice President of the Lemon Grove School District Governing Board. I am writing to share important updates from our district's leadership.

Firstly, I want to inform you that our Board President, Mr. Greg Shibely, has stepped down from his position effective November 8th. We deeply appreciate Mr. Shibley's dedication and advocacy for our students' well-being during his three years as a member of the Lemon Grove School District Board of Education. His commitment to our district will be remembered.

 

Furthermore, our current Superintendent, Erica Balakian, will be stepping down from her position at the beginning of January. We want to acknowledge Superintendent Balakian's significant contributions during her tenure. Under her leadership, we have implemented Culturally and Historically Responsive teaching practices, initiated groundbreaking projects like the Early Childhood Education Campus, and established a successful district-wide music program. Her commitment to our students and community has been commendable.

 

As we look ahead, the Governing Board is actively working to identify a new leader for our district. We have made the decision to appoint, rather than hold a special election, to fill the remainder of Mr. Shibely's term, which concludes in November 2024. This decision was reached at our last Board meeting, and we will soon publish the process and timeline for the provisional appointment. If you or someone you know is interested in this public service opportunity, please encourage them to apply and be considered by the Board.

 

We recently interviewed three search firms during a Board meeting to assist in the process of finding a new superintendent. While a final selection has not been made, we are committed to ensuring a rigorous, fair, and open search for the best organization to guide us. Your feedback and input regarding our next superintendent are invaluable. Regardless of the firm chosen, we will include surveys and in-person meetings for our families and staff to share their insights on the qualities they desire in our next district leader.

Espero que este mensaje les encuentre bien. Mi nombre es Dr. Javier Ayala y soy el vicepresidente de la Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Lemon Grove. Les escribo para compartir actualizaciones importantes del liderazgo de nuestro distrito.

En primer lugar, quiero informarles que el presidente de nuestra junta directiva, el Sr. Greg Shibely, renunció a su cargo a partir del 8 de noviembre. Apreciamos profundamente la dedicación y abogacía del Sr. Shibley por el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes durante sus tres años como miembro de la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar de Lemon Grove. Bajo su dirección, implementamos prácticas de enseñanza cultural e históricamente receptivas, iniciamos proyectos innovadores como el Campus de educación infantil y establecimos un exitoso programa de música en todo el distrito. Su compromiso con nuestros estudiantes y la comunidad ha sido encomiable.

Viendo hacia el futuro, la Junta Directiva está trabajando activamente para identificar un nuevo líder para nuestro distrito. Hemos tomado la decisión de nombrar, en lugar de llevar a cabo una elección especial, para cubrir el resto del mandato del Sr. Shibley, que concluye en noviembre de 2024. Esta decisión se tomó en nuestra última reunión de la Junta y pronto publicaremos el proceso y el cronograma para el nombramiento provisional. Si usted o alguien que conoce está interesado en esta oportunidad de servicio público, anímelo a presentar su solicitud y ser considerado por la Junta.

Recientemente entrevistamos a tres empresas de búsqueda durante una reunión de la Junta para ayudar en el proceso de encontrar un nuevo superintendente. Si bien no se ha realizado una selección final, estamos comprometidos a garantizar una búsqueda rigurosa, justa y abierta de la mejor organización que nos guíe. Sus comentarios y aportaciones sobre nuestro próximo superintendente son invaluables. Independientemente de la empresa elegida, incluiremos encuestas y reuniones en persona para que nuestras familias y personal compartan sus ideas sobre las cualidades que desean en nuestro próximo líder de distrito.
