The Lemon Grove Historical Society's popular lecture series resumes on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove, with "A Fireside Chat with Dr. John Warren," the noted pastor and distinguished publisher of San Diego Voice & Viewpoint, one of the nation's oldest African American newspapers.

Dr. Warren will address one of our favorite, timely topics: the meaning of the U. S. Constitution in modern life and how the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments shaped a better America, albeit through agonies that included the Civil War (1860-65) and many 20th century efforts to defeat their intentions. Dr. Warren's breadth of knowledge and human insight will help us better understand the Founders' goals.

Dr. Warren served 12 years as a staff member for leading African American Congress members and as a staff member to the House Committee on Education & Labor, nine years on the Washington, D. C. Board of Education, and three years on the board of the National School Boards Association. For eight years he was a weekly news commentator on KPBS radio and television and received Associated Press awards for other talk and news programs. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Howard University, studied Public Administration at USC and was a commissioned officer in the U. S. Army reserves. His community work is a matter of long record.
